Tremble! Retired Teacher Mikami is making a comeback! Just a few days ago, the industry received shocking news that could cause a seismic shift: Shinji Mikami is making a comeback. Since Shinji Mikami retired in February, he has been leading a retired life, much like an elderly person, either traveling around or staying at home playing games, which inevitably brings back memories of the countless thrilling nights he spent with us. Now, Shinji Mikami has chosen to return to the industry and continue to shine. We believe this legendary game developer can bring us more surprises, just like he did in the past. But wait, it seems like we are talking about a different "Shinji Mikami"? Isn't "Yua Mikami" the one who announced her retirement in August, and now she's making a comeback less than two months later? What are you thinking? We're actually talking about the genuine game developer, Shinji Mikami, who is often referred to as the "Father of Resident Evil" and goes by the code name "The Serpent." His classic horror game franchise, "Resident Evil," has provided plenty of spine-tingling experiences that can give you chills at night. Now that we have that cleared up, let's get back on track. The legendary game developer, Shinji Mikami, also known as the "Father of Resident Evil," with the code name "The Serpent," has officially announced his return to the industry. In a tweet, he explained that his previous contract had clauses that restricted him from working in the same industry for a certain period after leaving his previous position. Now that this restriction has expired, he can finally get back to making games. Shinji Mikami's tweet quickly caught the attention of gamers, and many hope that he will return to work on "The Evil Within." Shinji Mikami officially left Tango in February this year, ending his 12-year tenure at the studio. After leaving Tango, Shinji Mikami embarked on a leisurely lifestyle of traveling the world, enjoying food, and playing games, taking a page out of Island Brother's playbook. During this time, Shinji Mikami wasn't just traveling and eating; he also spent some time at home playing games like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Ghost of Tsushima," enjoying the gaming experience. Of course, among the games Shinji Mikami played, "Resident Evil 4: Rebirth" was not left out. He even praised it, saying, "It's a great game, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience." The original "Resident Evil 4" is considered one of Shinji Mikami's masterpieces, with innovations such as the over-the-shoulder perspective and quick-time events (QTE) that were groundbreaking for its time. Regardless of how many years have passed, it remains one of the best "Resident Evil" games in the hearts of fans. Unfortunately, the original "Resident Evil 4" became Shinji Mikami's "swan song" at Capcom, and later remakes of the game were released on various platforms. After leaving Capcom, Shinji Mikami didn't stop his legendary career as a game developer. He joined forces with fellow Capcom alumni Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba to create PlatinumGames, where they worked on titles like "Bayonetta," "Nier: Automata," "MadWorld," and "Astral Chain." But the project that truly brought Shinji Mikami back to the pinnacle was his departure from PlatinumGames to establish his own studio, Tango Gameworks, and the development of "The Evil Within." With stunning visuals, terrifying monsters, well-crafted level design, and an intensely oppressive atmosphere, "The Evil Within" perfectly combined the characteristics of "Resident Evil 4" and expanded upon them, becoming another classic horror game that players held in high regard. Unfortunately, "The Evil Within" was the last game that Shinji Mikami personally directed. Its sequel, "The Evil Within 2," was merely supervised in name, and his later projects included new IPs like "Ghostwire: Tokyo" and the critically acclaimed "Vanquish." In fact, Shinji Mikami himself has stated that the games he supervised were meant to mentor new talent, as he recognized that he couldn't be on the front lines forever due to his advancing age. So, he embarked on a well-deserved retirement during this time. Now, Shinji Mikami has announced his return to the role of a game developer. For fans of horror games, this is undoubtedly great news. "Resident Evil" and "The Evil Within" are classic franchises known to all, and whether he continues with sequels or develops new IPs, players are eagerly anticipating what he has in store. However, it's unlikely that Shinji Mikami will return to Tango, just as he did not return to Capcom after leaving. It's highly probable that he will establish a new studio to embark on this final phase of his career as a game developer. As the saying goes, "Is it not a joy, though aged, that can still eat?" We'll have to wait and see how well Shinji Mikami understands games now and if he can continue to create horror games that engulf players in an atmosphere of terror. It's worth mentioning that Hideki Kamiya, who co-founded PlatinumGames with Shinji Mikami and is one of the "Four Aces of Capcom," left PlatinumGames last month. Like Shinji Mikami, he is bound by non-compete clauses. If they can work together again after these restrictions expire, that would be truly thrilling!
