A perfectly good "Tekken 7" match was disrupted by environmentalists! In June of this year, the release of "Street Fighter 6" was incredibly popular. Capcom's bold innovations breathed new life into the "fighting game" genre. It can be said that "Street Fighter 6" is currently the best fighting game. However, the same can't be said for "Tekken," which, as another "fighting game," hasn't been as fortunate. Despite the fact that the latest installment in the series, "Tekken 8," has a specific release date, there is little discussion about it online. This isn't because the game's quality is poor, but rather, the "fighting game" genre itself doesn't have a strong following in China. "Street Fighter 6" was able to stand out due to various coincidences and opportunities. The "Tekken" series has been very popular abroad, with over 50 million copies sold and a plethora of tournaments big and small, proving the series' popularity. Recently, "Tekken 7" gained international attention once again, but not for the game itself. It was due to an environmental organization. On October 15th, which was the last day of the 2023 EGX (Eurogamer Expo) in London, the event, which was supposed to conclude with the "Tekken 7" finals, was completely disrupted by three unexpected guests. As the two "Tekken 7" players were preparing for an intense match, three individuals wearing T-shirts with the words "JUST STOP OIL" rushed onto the stage and sprayed paint onto the players' monitors. Not content with merely spraying paint on the screens, the three men proceeded to announce their purpose for disrupting the tournament on the stage. In the name of the "JUST STOP OIL" organization, they demanded that the UK government immediately cease all coal, natural gas, and oil mining permits, claiming that playing with their lives. Subsequently, according to photos taken by spectators on-site, these three men who disrupted the "Tekken 7" tournament were quickly arrested by the authorities. The organization these men belonged to is none other than the infamous UK environmental group, "JUST STOP OIL." "JUST STOP OIL" is a well-known environmental organization in the UK, and although the organization has been established for less than a year, its "achievements" are quite remarkable. Their protest actions include, but are not limited to, hanging banners in Premier League football stadiums to disrupt matches, climbing onto London highways with banners to obstruct traffic, and spraying and damaging artifacts in various museums. One of their most famous actions took place at the National Gallery in London last October. Members of the organization entered the museum with two buckets of tomato soup and poured them onto Vincent van Gogh's famous painting, "Sunflowers." The reason "JUST STOP OIL" targeted the "Tekken" tournament at EGX this year is because the event was related to "Barclays Bank," which has invested in the chemical fuel industry. Barclays Bank is the sponsor of the exhibition booth at this year's EGX, primarily intended to provide independent UK developers with an opportunity to showcase their upcoming game projects. EGX in London is the largest-scale esports event in the UK, organized and operated by "Reedpop," the original organizer of E3, and it has been running to this day. Apart from the official "Master Cup" and North America's "EVO," EGX is one of the most well-known events for the "Tekken" series. Fortunately, one of the event organizers for EGX, "Eurogamer," stated: The incident that occurred on Sunday was quickly handled by on-site security and local law enforcement officers. Those involved were peacefully removed from the venue, and after a brief delay, the esports tournament resumed as usual. Afterward, the official "JUST STOP OIL" organization released a statement on their platform, using this incident to express their views on the gaming industry. "JUST STOP OIL" believes that video games allow people to escape to a dimension where they can detach from reality. They argue that the current state of the world has reached a critical point that could deprive billions of people of their lives. Emitting more carbon into the atmosphere at this time should truly mean "game over." They suggest that gamers need to collaborate to win, and they are no exception. Everyone needs to join the resistance against new oil and natural gas. These actions by "JUST STOP OIL" are reminiscent of another "infamous" animal protection organization in the gaming community, "PETA." This organization has "intervened" in various popular games such as "Elden Ring," "Final Fantasy XV," and "Animal Crossing," calling on players to treat small animals kindly. In reality, these so-called "protective organizations" are primarily interested in their own agendas, and as long as they receive enough money, they are willing to act as striking students, striking workers, or even as minority groups. "JUST STOP OIL" is no exception, as it is supported by "Aileen Getty," the current heir to the infamous Getty Oil Company in the United States. It's ironic that the founder of an environmental organization is actually a source of environmental pollution. It's unclear who we, as gamers, have offended, but we're constantly being targeted by extreme organizations. However, this doesn't mean that we gamers are easy to intimidate. If the whole environment is stirred up to be chaotic, whether we take action is up to us!
