After waiting for 3 years, "Party Animals" is receiving a wave of negative reviews?! A game called "Party Animals" has recently become popular. Not only are players in various forums and communities discussing this game, but even many top game streamers are enjoying it. You might not have an impression of "Party Animals," but you've definitely seen this meme many times. The game demo became extremely popular when it was first released on Steam in 2020. With its diverse and cute animals and the inherent "party" aspect, "Animal Party" quickly became a highly talked-about domestic game within just a few days. At that time, the popularity of party games like "Fall Guys" and "Super Smash Bros." was on the rise, and "Party Animals," with its focus on cartoonish and casual gameplay, naturally gained players' favor within a short period. The gameplay of "Party Animals" is not complex. Up to 8 players control small animals and compete in various scene maps, trying to achieve specific objectives while fighting each other to win. What truly attracts players is the use of a unique "dynamic drive system," making each little animal behave like soft, clumsy ragdolls. Their actions are endearingly awkward yet cute, providing a unique sense of fun during battles. Another reason for the popularity of "Party Animals" comes from the astonishing quality of the demo. Players controlled small animals that fought frantically in distinct maps, combined with quirky weapons that dropped randomly, making the joy of this party game peak. Many believed that "Party Animals" would release the official version to capitalize on the hype, and through updates, it could rival the popularity of games like "Fall Guys." Unfortunately, "Party Animals" did not choose to launch the game right away but instead went into seclusion for three long years. After three years of waiting, "Party Animals" was finally released on September 20th. However, the community's attitude towards the game has done a complete 180-degree turn. Currently, the game has a Steam approval rating of only 63%, and when you specify user reviews in "Simplified Chinese," the approval rating drops even further. This situation, unthinkable three years ago, has become a reality. Back in June of this year, "Party Animals" caused discontent among many players in the Chinese region due to its high price of 98 yuan. Compared to other Chinese games like "Chinese Paladin 7" and "The Legend of Sword and Fairy 3," which are large-scale RPG games, these titles cost just over 100 yuan. It's hard to justify the 98-yuan price tag for a party game like "Party Animals," which aims to compete with "Fall Guys." The community was initially forgiving because if a game offers rich gameplay, it's acceptable to have a slightly higher price. However, "Party Animals" remained in isolation for three years, which left players feeling lonely. Comparing the three maps in the demo from three years ago to the official version, there are merely an additional 17 maps. The official version's gameplay is almost identical to the demo. In other words, the development team, over three years, only produced 17 additional maps, which is an efficiency that could be seen as rather unproductive. The development team made some detailed optimizations during the three years, such as fur, physical collisions, and sound. However, these "inconsequential" changes didn't significantly improve the player experience. In the meantime, even the "Animal Party" trademark was registered by someone else. On the other hand, during the development of "Party Animals," various statements made by the development team have disgusted players. Comments like, "I suggest you buy the game but don't play it," or "Our game's synchronization is eight times that of 'CS:GO,' and with a price of 60 yuan, the company will most likely go bankrupt," spoken by a key figure in the game's development, are difficult to believe. Are we supposed to consider your company's financial health when deciding whether or not to play your game? Then why don't you share some of the profits with us when the time comes? The official's sluggish development efficiency and bizarre statements have turned many players against the game. Faced with players' dissatisfaction, the official not only failed to recognize its mistakes but also deleted and controlled comments that insulted the game. Inside the game, the development team even added highly controversial content such as "Nimo Coins" (profanity) during the beta version, which made "Party Animals" thoroughly offend players. Although the official later modified the animal skins and currency from "Grass-Nimo" to address player complaints, the lost reputation couldn't be regained, resulting in a "mixed" result upon the game's release. Furthermore, the development team was accused of treating domestic and international players differently. Timely responses were provided to English-speaking Steam users, while Simplified Chinese users were seemingly ignored. Considering the hours-long queues upon the game's release and in-game purchases more expensive than the base game, it's understandable that "Party Animals" would garner many negative reviews in a short amount of time. The current state of "Party Animals" is entirely the result of the development team's actions. Setting aside the three-year delay and the addition of only 17 maps, the disrespectful attitude toward players was sufficient to earn them the ire of the public. It was once seen as a potential second "Fall Guys," but now, it can only hope not to become the second "Three Kingdoms Killing" debacle. As for whether it can regain its lost reputation and credibility in the future, that will ultimately depend on the game itself.
