A remake of "Red Dead Redemption" is coming? Rumors keep pouring in! Not long ago, a professional review website called "Shumaoshe" released a video showcasing the game "Red Dead Redemption" achieving 4K 60FPS performance on a computer. Of course, this is not an official remastered version of "Red Dead Redemption" from Rockstar Games. Instead, Shumaoshe used an Xbox 360 emulator and a high-end PC configuration to achieve this result. While the game experiences frame drops in certain scenes, and the imperfections in the Xbox 360 emulator sometimes lead to texture errors in some scenes, overall, the game's visual performance has reached the standard of a remastered edition. May 18th this year marked the 13th anniversary of the official release of "Red Dead Redemption." Unfortunately, players still cannot experience this epic game on platforms other than PS3 and Xbox 360. "Red Dead Redemption" is set against the backdrop of 20th-century North American colonial expansion and the industrial revolution, telling the adventure story of the protagonist, John Marston, in the lawless and wild American frontier. The highly popular "Red Dead Redemption 2" is a prequel to the original game. However, due to platform limitations, many players have not had the opportunity to experience the first "Red Dead Redemption." Currently, Rockstar Games is primarily focused on the development of "Grand Theft Auto VI." It seems they may not have the time to work on remastered or re-released versions of their older games. However, various rumors are circulating about a remastered version of "Red Dead Redemption." In June, "Red Dead Redemption" received an unexpected game rating in South Korea with a classification code "CC-NV-230615-001." In the South Korean game rating system, "NV" refers to console games, and "NP" refers to PC games. Previously, the "Undead Nightmare" expansion and "Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition" had already been approved in South Korea. This suggests that the newly approved game is likely a remastered version targeting next-gen consoles or a re-release. Subsequently, former IGN editor Colin Moriarty discussed a remastered version of "Red Dead Redemption" on his podcast. He claimed to have seen evidence that a remastered version exists and that the game is likely to be announced in August of this year. Colin Moriarty also suggested that Rockstar Games hadn't abandoned the idea of a remastered version; it just had a long production timeline. In addition to these reports, players noticed that Rockstar updated the art quality of the social club achievement icons for "Red Dead Redemption" and "Midnight Club: Los Angeles." While this alone doesn't confirm that Rockstar is developing remastered versions of these games, it does suggest that the company is preparing for something. After all, there's no need to update the clarity of achievement icons unless they are planning something significant. Furthermore, Rockstar has taken action to remove fan-made images of a remastered version of "Red Dead Redemption" from the game community. This mirrors Rockstar's actions before the release of "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition." Many players see this as a sign that a remastered version of "Red Dead Redemption" is on the way. In 2019, mod creator "DamnedDev" attempted to bring "Red Dead Redemption" to the PC platform but was soon contacted by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, and was instructed to stop. This suggests that Rockstar might have been quietly preparing for a remastered version at that time. Players' enthusiasm for a remastered version of "Red Dead Redemption" is evident, but questions remain about what form this remaster would take. Would it be a complete remake, or a high-definition remaster with improved textures? While Rockstar has the technology and financial resources to create a full remake of "Red Dead Redemption," their history with older games suggests that they typically release high-definition remasters focused on texture improvements rather than full-scale remakes. The release of "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition" in 2021, which was marred by various technical issues, had a significant negative impact on Rockstar's reputation. While this lesson should prevent them from releasing rushed remasters, prospects for a remastered "Red Dead Redemption" project still seem uncertain. With "GTA 6" in development and "GTA Online" content appearing increasingly rushed, "Red Dead Online" has been effectively abandoned. Moreover, the massive code leak prior to the game's official announcement has created challenges for any potential modifications. As a result, Rockstar might not have the resources to focus on other projects. In conclusion, it is likely that Rockstar will once again collaborate with an external studio to handle the remastering of "Red Dead Redemption," similar to how they worked with Grove Street Games for "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition." Hopefully, the quality of this remaster will be significantly better. In any case, many players are willing to embrace it, as this would be a chance to experience the game on platforms other than the PS3 and Xbox 360. Whether it will be a full remake or a high-definition remaster is still up for debate.
