The protagonists from past "Resident Evil" games are all together? Even the boss has to run away at the sight of them! It's been almost a month since the release of "Resident Evil 4: RE," and the game's popularity remains high. Powered by the "RE Engine," the game boasts superior environmental atmosphere and graphical effects compared to the original version. Characters like "Leon" and "Ashley" have been revamped in the remake, and Capcom has once again taken "remake gaming" to the extreme. Two weeks after the release of "Resident Evil 4: RE," Capcom announced that the game had officially exceeded 4 million copies in sales. They also revealed that the additional free DLC "Mercenaries Mode" would be available on the same day. While "Mercenaries Mode" currently lacks characters like "Ada" and "Wesker," data in the game files suggests that these characters may be added soon, including their character models and exclusive background music. Furthermore, "Separate Ways," a DLC dedicated to "Ada," is rumored to offer richer content than the original game, indicating that Capcom is prepared for long-term updates. However, Capcom has some surprises up its sleeve beyond the DLC. Fans of the "Resident Evil" series may have already seen the latest CG movie trailer for "Death Island," featuring all five main characters from past games, creating considerable anticipation for the movie. The trailer was released on April 14 and reached 1.75 million views in just one day. It's evident that people are eagerly anticipating this latest CG movie. Back in February, a Twitter account named "bio_deathisland" began posting teasers for "Resident Evil: Death Island." At the time, only silhouettes of "Leon" and "Chris" were shown, generating limited interest. The lukewarm reception may have been influenced by Netflix's CG series "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness," the live-action "Resident Evil" series, and the rebooted "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City" movie, which followed one after another. However, this CG movie is worth the excitement. From the trailer, it's evident that the visuals are well-executed, without overt "politically correct" content. Capcom appears to have learned from its past missteps and likely handled the production itself. Given that the "Resident Evil" franchise is a multimillion-selling top-tier IP, it can't afford poor reception in the world of film and television. Additionally, seeing multiple main characters from the "Resident Evil" series come together on the big screen is like the "Avengers" of the gaming world. Such a dreamlike scenario that couldn't happen in the games has been brought to life in this CG movie. According to the official website, "Resident Evil: Death Island" is set in 2015, after the events of "Resident Evil 6." The story follows "Leon," rescuing the kidnapped Dr. "Antonio," and "Chris" and his team investigating a virus leak on Alcatraz Island. The two teams will cross paths on the island. In this movie, all five main characters, "Jill," "Rebecca," "Leon," "Chris," and "Claire," will make a comeback. Their collective appearance has led various gaming media, including Polygon, to refer to "Resident Evil: Death Island" as a "biohazard version" of "The Avengers." Although the trailer provides limited content, there are still highlights. This movie features the first-time crossover of "Jill" and "Leon." In the trailer, the two briefly engage in combat when they meet. It remains to be seen if this scene pays tribute to the iconic moment in "Resident Evil 4" when "Leon" and "Ada" met and had a brief fight. Another scene in the trailer shows "Chris" and "Leon" sitting together in a car, which is certainly less terrifying than facing a monstrous creature. "Leon" is often referred to as a "vehicle killer," as any means of transportation he operates usually ends up destroyed. On the other hand, "Chris" is known for his "teammate killer" reputation, as most of his comrades, including "Jill" and "Sheva," don't fare well. The combination of these two might lead to humorous consequences, or it might just be fine with both "debuffs." Finally, there's great anticipation for the movie's ultimate boss, as five "superhuman" characters come together to confront this mysterious opponent. While gamers may have struggled through the "Resident Evil" games, the main characters breeze through without a scratch. The movie's boss must be an extraordinary adversary to motivate the entire main cast to band together. Now, let's discuss some peculiar aspects of the film. First, the visual style of the main characters in "Resident Evil: Death Island" is not entirely consistent. "Jill" has the model from "Resident Evil 3: RE," "Leon" and "Claire" are from "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness," and "Chris" and "Rebecca" are from "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City." In summary, it's a mix of different models, which makes the movie feel somewhat disjointed. Additionally, the trailer includes a peculiar scene reminiscent of the "buddy system" from "Resident Evil: Revenge." In this scene, a boss with tentacles sweeps the characters apart, and each character effortlessly avoids the boss's attack using their unique "abilities." While "Jill," "Chris," and "Rebecca" appear to perform normal evasion actions, "Leon" and "Claire" take a more flashy and stylized approach, further highlighting the movie's "diverse" aspects. The audience's response to this scene has not been particularly positive. Of course, passing a "death sentence" on this movie based solely on the trailer would be unfair. We'll have to wait until July 7th, the release date, to see the final product's quality. For fans of the "Resident Evil" series, it's still worth checking out, especially with five iconic main characters coming together. And "Jill's" striking presence alone might be worth the price of admission!
