Artificial intelligence evolving further? ChatGPT successfully simulates a text-based "Pokémon: Emerald"! Since its launch, the conversation-based large language model "ChatGPT" by OpenAI has sparked a global frenzy in various fields, causing a dramatic transformation in just a few months. It's become proficient in drawing, writing, coding, and more. Such powerful learning capabilities lead to the thought that "one day, will humans be replaced by AI?" As one of the hotbeds of technological innovation, the gaming industry has witnessed new opportunities and challenges in recent years due to the development of artificial intelligence. ChatGPT, as a large language model, is expected to play a significant role in this evolving landscape. Last year, AI was still in its learning and development phase, mainly doing simple tasks like "drawing illustrations for butter." However, as the program has continued to improve and humans have provided boundless creative ideas, AI is no longer limited to merely creating illustrations for games; it can now describe an entire game using text. Recently, a Twitter user named "Dan Dangond" successfully used ChatGPT 4.0 to simulate "Pokémon: Ruby," albeit in a text-based form. The text-based "Ruby" created by ChatGPT 4.0 vividly describes various details from the original game, down to the details of battles that players encounter during the normal gameplay. For example, the AI knows that "the gym in Petalburg City, which the protagonist reaches first, is not open to the public yet" and that "you need to obtain the bicycle item to proceed smoothly on Route 110." It can even provide players with the starting choice of "initial starter Pokémon." For ChatGPT 4.0, a language model with powerful text capabilities, precisely describing a game that is primarily characterized by "turn-based battles" and "text" is not a challenging task. However, even AI with extensive databases can find it challenging to ensure there are no errors in the entire text-based "Pokémon Ruby." For example, characteristics such as "ground-type Pokémon being effective against water-type Pokémon" need to be corrected with the guidance of Dan Dangond. After experiencing the text-based version of "Pokémon Ruby," Dan Dangond stated that ChatGPT 4.0 understands most of the game's details and delves deep into various information settings of the game. By learning, it can even have a precise understanding of the prerequisites for a Pokémon's skills. It's like having someone share a strategy guide that covers all the game's content. In fact, Pokémon fans have already used AI for creative purposes. In 2021, a data scientist named "Max Woolf" created numerous new Pokémon based on AI. According to Max Woolf, he first had AI completely learn and memorize the existing Pokémon and then generated entirely new Pokémon. However, most of the Pokémon created by AI are constructed by combining and referencing existing Pokémon, and genuinely "original" Pokémon are rare. Furthermore, AI-created Pokémon, whether in terms of quality or appearance, leave much to be desired. Some of them appear as if they've been dismembered and reassembled, resulting in an unsettling appearance. Today, AI has undergone significant adjustments and has achieved a qualitative leap in both its underlying logic and content granularity. It can now generate speech, code, text-based games, and more. Perhaps it won't be long before AI can be used to design entirely new games. Certainly, despite its unprecedented learning capabilities, AI has yet to develop a comprehensive auditing algorithm. After all, it's just an emotionless machine and cannot adapt and change rules as flexibly as humans can. This is the fundamental difference between humans and machines. Once AI can break through this boundary, it's likely that humans won't be too far from being replaced.
