Did Bethesda not exaggerate? "Starfield" new real gameplay footage is exciting enough to make you wet your pants! Many people's impressions of "Starfield" might have been stuck in the phase where Bethesda was making grand promises, especially after the official announcement of the game's delay, with a feeling that it might never be completed. However, the reality turned out to be unexpected. Microsoft used a recent gaming event to restore players' confidence in "Starfield." On June 12th, at 1:00 AM, Microsoft held its second gaming event of 2023, featuring almost entirely new IP that hadn't been revealed before. The highlight of the event was a 45-minute live gameplay presentation of "Starfield." The game's extensive content and vast scale left all players in awe. Following the event, "Starfield" claimed the top spot in the Steam game pre-order charts, even surpassing the "Cyberpunk 2077" "Past Glory" expansion. So, what did Bethesda showcase to generate such enormous enthusiasm among players? In the words of the game director, Todd Howard, it's all about giving players not just one world but the freedom of a galaxy. Bethesda's games are known for providing players with a vast sandbox stage to write their own stories, and "Starfield" takes this concept to the next level. Based on the information revealed so far, "Starfield" features several star organizations, including the United Colonies, the Free Star Group, Dragon God Industries, and more. Players can choose to join different star organizations based on their preferences. Each star organization on each planet has irreconcilable conflicts due to differing beliefs, creating a situation of mutual competition where everyone has a reason to fight for their faith. One significant departure from previous Bethesda games is the addition of "interstellar travel" in "Starfield." Players can control a spaceship to explore any planet and customize their own vehicle through the "spaceship modification" system. The game offers various modules for ship modification, including nacelles, thrusters, living quarters, and more. Even the exterior appearance of the ship can be customized. These modifications will determine the final look of your ship, and you can add things like weapon storage, production areas, control rooms, and cargo holds. You could even turn it into something resembling a "Gundam." Bethesda games have historically faced criticism for the combat experience, with melee combat in the "Elder Scrolls" series often described as lacking impact, and the gunplay in the "Fallout" series not always hitting the mark. However, "Starfield" changes that by offering a smoother and more spectacular shooting experience. Despite Todd Howard's claim that id Software only provided assistance with visuals and didn't directly participate in the combat section's development, the current performance of the game gives us reason to believe that id Software made significant optimizations and suggestions for the combat part. One of the game's special features is the procedurally generated planets. Some planets, created manually by the development team, will be unveiled when players first explore them, while the open environment on other planets will be generated randomly by AI. According to Bethesda, "Starfield" provides players with over a thousand planets to explore, and the differences in gravity between different planets will offer distinct experiences. Although these planets might tend to be somewhat homogenized at first glance, the AI system ensures subtle differences during exploration. In summary, the content demonstrated during the "Starfield" event was incredibly rich, to the point where it was almost hard to believe. Moreover, the game's release is still quite some time away, so what was shown during the event is likely just the tip of the iceberg. Even if this is the full extent of what's revealed, the innovative design that challenges the traditional gameplay is enough to make players eagerly anticipate the game. However, such an extensive system design could also expose the game to more problems, making it challenging to maintain the overall pace of gameplay. Moreover, the more systems that are added, the greater the probability of encountering issues, and Bethesda's games are renowned for their countless bugs. According to Matt Booty, head of Microsoft's game studios, "Starfield" will have fewer bugs than any other game released by Bethesda. Let's hope that Matt Booty's words are not just wishful thinking. It's safe to predict that if "Starfield" can truly incorporate all the content that Bethesda envisions, this game, viewed from a cosmic perspective, will undoubtedly become a new milestone in the gaming industry. As for whether this "wild" design can land smoothly, let's eagerly await the game's release date!
